I have never understood why turning needs to be so stupid and hard to use. It's ridiculous that when you turn right, you turn right when you go forwards but then you turn left when you reverse. I can't tell you how many times this has gotten me stuck or made me unable to track my target. There's no consistency... If I want to keep turning to the same direction I was turning before starting to reverse / starting to go forward, I will have to adjust for that... no other game makes you adjust like that. When you turn left, you turn left, when you turn right, you turn right.. It should be that simple.
Anyone know why it is not that simple? |

Geovexen wrote:yeah, it's not like other games but it's also not hard. learn the controls. It is not really hard, it's confusing and annoying because if you play other games besides Dust where you drive any vehicles then the controls are all different and it gets really, really annoying.
EDIT: And like I said this leads to turning into unintented directions at times after you have only simply stopped your vehicle because the game thinks you are going backwards and then you turn to the other way even though you are standing still. It needs to turn the same way no matter which way you are moving or if you are not moving at all. |

Ren Ratner wrote:I've never had difficulty driving my tanks. In fact, I spend almost as much time in reverse as I do moving forward because only a fool turns a 180 in a tank. Your claims about consistency make no sense to me. The controls are consistent and turning is only inverted while in reverse, as with any vehicle.
Have you ever driven a car? Reverse much? That's how it works. To reverse and turn left, you turn the wheel as if you were moving forward and turning right.
It sounds as if you want CCP to redo tank controls so that they would automatically adjust so that the front of your tank is whichever direction your turret is facing, or whether the front or back is moving forward. Ok. So what about when you're stationary? What about when you're strafing with your turret aimed to the left or right?
The current control scheme IS simple. With practice, driving in reverse will feel natural. With 9 months of practice it still doesn't feel natural because of how I've learned to drive in games 15 years ago.... And if you want to take the real life driving a car argument here, yes, of course in real life cars behave a lot differently than in this game. I just want it to be consistent with every other game out there that has vehicles. |
